THE SPORTS PUBLICIST offers hands on experience in public relations, marketing, events and more.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support day-to-day media relations 
  • Generate press materials, including press releases, talking points, bios, etc
  • Coordinate media interviews, photoshoots, and publicity opportunities

  • Keep press kit materials current and updated
  • Creating media briefs that are athlete-facing prior to interviews

OVERVIEW

The Junior Publicist will support the Founder and Chief Strategist with a variety tasks contributing to the development and organization of the agency and brand. This individual must be start-up minded and able to confidently manage the functions of the organization, handling the day to day operations and administrative responsibilities. The right candidate understands their role is essential in keeping the founder focused in an environment of changing and competing priorities. 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Written Correspondence & Documentation: Be responsible for producing formal documents and press materials including pitches, bios, backgrounders, fact sheets, media advisories and press releases
  • Scheduling & Calendar Management: Oversee and manage internal master client calendar; Responsible for coordinating meetings, interviews, events in addition to building and maintaining internal and external editorial and content calendars
  • Researching: Effectively provide research for such use like prospective client pitching and fielding, current client roaster, and overall market landscape/trends. Can strongly identify and summarize key findings/data
  • Business Development: Assist in business development process by maintaining and developing prospective client database, fielding inquiries and pitching new business as needed
  • On-site management: Accompany the Founder and/or clients to meetings and events as needed
  • Presentations:  Design presentations that are both visual and written
  • Reporting & Recaps: Responsible for media tracking and client reporting including media clips, publicity alerts, digital alerts, and monthly reports including calculating PR values
  • Pitching wide array of writers/influencers regarding news content and generating results from those efforts
  • Strategize on big picture campaigns and the results/stories that will be generated from that planning and execution
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 1-2 years of PR, marketing, or digital experience 
  • Excellent communications skills – written and verbal 
  • Professional, poised, polished
  • Ability to work collaboratively but confident and comfortable working alone

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Keep press kit materials current and updated
  • Creating media briefs that are athlete-facing prior to interviews
  • Monitor media for opportunities for additional exposure, possible problems or issues
  • Draft pitches and releases relating to events, personal, charitable and sports-related news
  • Track coverage and share metrics * Sponsorships/Endorsements
  • Building target businesses/brand lists with contacts and emails
  • Drafting emails for target businesses and brands
  • Brainstorming creative ideas for target businesses and brands for each athlete
  • Building decks and presentations for potential clients
  • Building recap decks for partnerships
  • Utilize recaps to build case studies 


Events        

  • Aiding in event coordination and logistics
  • Must be available outside of ‘normal’ work hours on occasion.
  • Managing check-ins and VIP attendees
  • Building recap deck on events showcasing ROI 


Social Media

  • Manage social media for athletes while at events, activation
  • Keeps management informed by collecting, analyzing and summarizing concerns, data and trends



CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • College graduate (degrees in Sports Marketing/Marketing, Communications, Business, Journalism or Public Relations preferred)
  • Must have at least (1) prior internship in sports marketing, media relations, communications industry.
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of media/sports
  • Knowledge of MAC computers preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Previous public relations or journalism experience is a bonus
